Class Action Lawsuit Against Ken’s Foods for Misleading Salad Dressing Labels

A Drop in the Bucket: Ken’s Foods Misleading Salad Dressing Labels.

We are proud to announce that as a result of our class action against Ken’s Foods regarding its misleading salad dressing labels, Ken’s Foods has permanently changed its deceptive labels. Prior to our class action lawsuit, Ken’s labelled its Italian, Greek, and Olive Oil & Vinegar dressings with “Made with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.” The phrase reasonably caused many consumers to believe that the salad dressing’s main oil ingredient was olive oil. However, that was not the case. It turns out that the Italian dressing, Greek dressing, and Olive Oil & Vinegar dressings contained very little olive oil. So what was the primary ingredient if not olive oil?

The main ingredient was either canola or soybean oil, which are dramatically cheaper and less healthy than olive oil. Indeed, the plaintiffs stated that they had purchased Ken’s salad dressings for the purpose of consuming a healthier oil– olive oil. The plaintiffs admitted they would not have purchased the products if the labels did not indicate that olive oil was the main oil ingredient. Prior to litigation, our clients asked Ken’s to remove or fix the misleading labeling for its salad dressings. Ken’s denied their requests.

Imagine being told that this burger was made with grass-fed beef, when in fact its main ingredient is cellulose (a.k.a. wood pulp, yuck) with a hint of grass-fed beef blended into the patty. Believe it or not, this form of consumer deception happens more than you could imagine!
